Using Strategic Doing to address urban issues

The Purdue Agile Strategy Lab team has been working with partners in New Jersey for the past couple of years. The work has included sessions with university partners, business networks, and individual corporations – and local government.

In October, one such offering was with leaders in Trenton’s Department of Housing & Economic Development and the local business community during Trenton Business Week. Interim department director Diana Nelson brought 80 people together over four days to learn Strategic Doing from the Lab’s associate director, Scott Hutcheson, and to use the discipline to address four issues: developing the city’s “shop local” efforts, strengthening the food entrepreneurship network, growing the arts economy, and using the waterfront as an economic asset. Eight teams are now hard at work on a variety of Pathfinder projects.
