Tammy J. Salmon-Stephens is the Director of the College of EMS Student Success Programs and has worked at UW-Platteville since 1997. Salmon-Stephens, a UW-Platteville alumna holds degrees in BS and MS degrees in engineering and is actively involved in programs to support women and underrepresented minorities in STEM and student success. She is the recipient of the University of Wisconsin System Outstanding Academic Staff Award, UW-Platteville Woman of the Year Award, the UW-Platteville Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award, the College of EMS Outstanding Alumnus Award, the Rosa Parks Diversity Award from the Women’s Transportation Network, and the INSIGHT Into Diversity “2016 Inspiring Women in STEM” Award. Recently the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) awarded the UW-Platteville Women in Engineering, Math and Science Program the Claire L. Felbinger award for diversity. Although these state and national awards are impressive, her most prized awards are those that come directly from students and in particular the award from the UW-Platteville Students Planning for Success, housed in the Services for Students with Disabilities Department, as a supportive staff member and the recent certificate of recognition from the UW-Platteville Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, a freshman honor society, in recognition for outstanding achievements to the students of UW-Platteville. She is the co-advisor for the National Society of Leadership and Success student chapter and is a Strategic Doing Workshop Leader. She and some of her family members are entreprenuers and own Bitesize Tackle, LLC - manufacturing and selling the nearly 100-year old Miller Wobbler.
She focuses her project management and communication skills on programs and events that improve support student success in higher education; specifically, through coaching, mentoring, teaching, identity discovery and development, diversity and inclusion, and self-care. Most notable is her work in increasing access for women in STEM careers, improved processes that remove barriers to success in higher education and improved communication processes. Her interests outside of work include being a mom and a life partner, reading, fishing, time with family and friends and occasionally quilting and sewing. One of her current goals is to build an online social media presence and become a certified professional coach.
