Valerie Case is the Vice President of Operations for the Pocono Chamber of Commerce. Valerie has over 15 years of experience in human services, receiving certifications in numerous methodologies including, Life Space Crisis Intervention, Rational Emotive Behavioral therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Sanctuary model. Valerie was a head trainer for the Sanctuary model at KidsPeace National Hospitals and Residential Centers. During her time with Resources for Human Development, Valerie opened three homes for dually diagnosed individuals, developing programs for those individuals to function in a community environment. Valerie also co-facilitated the Clinical Certificate Program, for employees of RHD, a nine-month training program for direct service professionals. Additionally during her time with RHD, Valerie participated in a national focus group for best practices in crisis intervention, as well as being highly involved with the training of staff in new modalities. In her transition from mental health, Valerie started with the chamber of commerce, assisting with the resurgence of this important networking modem in the community. She has assisted with rebranding the organization and asserting its importance in the Pocono community. She serves as the co-chair on the 2030 Monroe County Strategic Doing Business Development Committee. Valerie earned her Master of Science in Counseling and Human Services from Chestnut Hill College and a double Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and sociology from Moravian College.
Bringing people together for a common good has been a lifelong passion for Dr. Rena Cotsones.
As Associate Vice President of Outreach, Engagement and Regional Development for Northern Illinois University, Rena works with regional partners to create and implement collaborative approaches to advancing education, economic development, workforce development, and innovation initiatives in northern Illinois and Chicagoland.
Most recently, Rena provided leadership for the creation of NIU Engineering @ RVC, a community-based, industry-integrated engineering baccalaureate completion program in partnership with the community college and industry partners in Rockford, Illinois. This collaborative workforce solution has inspired the development of other innovative approaches to education and workforce development in the region and won the 2017 Award of Excellence for Talent Development from the University Economic Development Association (UEDA).
Rena chaired the national Council on Engagement and Outreach (CEO) of the Association of Public and Landgrant Universities (APLU) in 2017. She helped lead the team that won APLU’s Innovation and Economic Prosperity designation for NIU in 2013. She is a board member of the University Economic Development Association. She is also a member of the national core team for Strategic Doing, a program of Purdue University’s Agile Strategy Lab and is a Strategic Doing instructor. In northern Illinois, she serves on the boards of numerous Chambers, economic development and education organizations.
Rena started her career as a broadcast journalist after graduating from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Ph.D. in Political Science from Northern Illinois University.
With 25 years of experience in the leisure sector, Wouter de Waal is an experienced advisor to government, industry and other parties active in tourism, recreation, nature, sports and education. He has a passion for innovation, cooperation and action. No long stories but on the bucket! In his view, Strategic Doing is perfect for the leisure sector, where most of the changes are realized with many parties that quickly form a 'complex network'.
